Oscar Picks and Predictions 2013

Here’s a quick rundown of my picks for tonight’s Oscars. I’m running a pool with my friends and I have it set up includes a point system. Each category gets their nominees ranked in reverse order. The top choice gets the most points in the category. The bottom choice gets a 1. Once all the awards are given, the points are tallied and the winner gets the money.

Bates Motel and the Horror Genre on Television

Thanks to The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, the horror genre is in the midst of its biggest television presence since Tales from the Crypt camped up the airwaves of the 1990s. Now A&E is trying to get in on the ground floor by taking a beloved character of the genre and enlisting network hit makers to create a modern day prequel series.

The Toby Theater and Beyond the Infinite (Kubrick on the Big Screen)

Last week I fulfilled a dream I’ve had since I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time on my family’s old 32-inch, component cabled tube TV over a decade ago. I finally saw the most visually breathtaking and hopelessly mind-bending film in a theater. Not only that, I saw it at one of the best theaters in Indianapolis.

Valentine’s Day 2013: The Michelle Williams Troubled Marriage Double Feature

I have a thing for themed movie selections. If I have an urge to watch one movie (and I have time for two), I’ll pick a second movie that’s somehow similar and host my own mini-marathon. That’s what I planned for Valentine’s Day 2013.

The movies I picked for my Valentine’s Day double feature were two emotionally jarring indictments of the mythical “fairy tale” romance that is the basis for the holiday. Blue Valentine and Take This Waltz are two films starring Michelle Williams as married but emotionally damaged women that will leave you questioning your idea of what it takes to make a relationship work.

How Netflix Could Revolutionize the Way Television Works

image

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

After cornering the home video rental market and all but slaying former rental juggernaut Blockbuster, it seems Netflix has now set its sights on the television industry. With the highly publicized release of House of Cards, the first original television series developed by Netflix, the king of on-demand streaming has introduced itself as an original content provider. And the ripples will be felt for years to come. Netflix could potentially lead the charge in changing the way television works.

Hello. I’m the Obsessive Viewer. Welcome.

I decided to start this blog because more and more people are embracing an addiction to screens and with far more viewing options than we’ve ever had before, it’s really easy to get a fix.

We’re living in a time where the entertainment industry is competing with rapidly evolving technology to deliver content as conveniently as possible. People are watching Boardwalk Empire on tablets on the commute to work. They’re watching The Avengers while jogging on the treadmill and streaming Netflix on their lunch break.

We are no longer shackled by arbitrary schedules and show times. And the amount of content at our fingertips is extraordinarily overwhelming.

So allow me to use this blog to be your enabler. My goal is to help feed your addiction with thoughts, recommendations and general discussions about entertainment news and the various movies and TV shows I’m consuming at any given time.

Don’t be afraid to join the discussion and be sure to follow me on my various social media pages. The links can be found in the About the Blog  section of the menu at the top. I’ll get all the links put up soon.
