This week’s Streaming Saturday is going to be a quick one because I have errands to run and beer to drink. As you can tell, this Saturday belongs to David Fincher‘s dark true crime thriller Zodiac! It tells the story of Robert Graysmith, a cartoonist in San Francisco who becomes obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac killer. It’s based on his book.
I’ve been reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this past week (look for an Adaptations & Remakes post at some point in the future) so both Fincher and crime (fictional or otherwise) are on my mind. Zodiac doesn’t seem to get the respect it deserves. It features a fantastic cast, Fincher’s very distinct visual style and a wealth of intrigue. The ending is a bit…bold, I suppose. But the ride is very much a high point of Fincher’s career, in my opinion.
Even though we know what happens, we’re still tense as hell the whole time. That’s a real testament to the type of director that Fincher is. Good review Matt.
Thanks Dan. I agree. I’m hoping to do a full Fincher retrospective in the future. Actually, Se7en, Zodiac and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo might make a good triple feature.

It’s really a shame too because it’s really great.
