Everything is Awesome, Except the Script! The Lego Movie Review

The-Lego-Movie-Wallpaper-HD-Download1

Emmet Brickowoski (Chris Pratt) is an ordinary man struggling to find acceptance and friendship in his normal, everyday life. However, when he stumbles upon a relic that leads mysterious parties to believe he is “the special” one prophesized to save the universe, his life becomes anything but normal.

Led by Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and a group of “master builders” under the charge of the wise old Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), Emmet must find a way to live up to the extraordinary high standards set by a prophecy he may or may not be the savior of all while on the run from the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell) and his henchman Good Copy/Bad Cop (Liam Neeson).

Oh, and everything is made of LEGOs. Continue reading

Mike Remembers: Harold Ramis

_1393342999

This one stings.

I texted a friend Tuesday about the death of comedy legend Harold Ramis, his response struck a chord: “One day all the greats will be gone, bums me out,” he said, and I couldn’t agree more. Harold Ramis really was one of the greats. Personally, I revered Ramis. So much of his work has spots on my favorites lists. Vacation, directed by Ramis, is a top five movie for me. Caddyshack, also directed by Ramis, is a comedy classic, and Ghostbusters, in which Ramis starred as Egon Spangler, was a huge part of my childhood.

Mike’s Trailer Spotlight: Guardians of the Galaxy

Screen-Shot-2014-02-19-at-09.08.57

Release Date: August 1, 2014

Director: James Gunn

Written By: James Gunn (screenplay), Nicole Perlman, James Gunn, (story), Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (comic book)

I love the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, and according to Yahoo’s The Wrap, so does the rest of the internet:

“After debuting Tuesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the footage for the upcoming outer space adventure attracted 88,000 mentions across Twitter, Facebook and various blogs in a 12-hour period between 11 p.m. EST until 11 a.m. EST.  By way of contrast, in the first 24 hours following their trailer debuts, “Man of Steel” attracted 75,000 social mentions, and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ inspired 96,000 mentions — and those were released at a reasonable hour.” Continue reading

TV Review: House of Cards – Season 2, Episode 1 – “Chapter 14”

Last year, in celebration of Netflix’s high-profile jump into original programming, I wrote a review of the first season of House of Cards. I loved it. It quickly became one of my favorite shows on television; a statement I find humorous considering it isn’t on conventional television.

As such, I have been very eagerly awaiting the February 14th premiere of season 2 of this groundbreaking political thriller. As a result of my eagerness, I’ve decided to review each episode of season 2 individually, as I view them. Continue reading

Screen shot 2014-02-12 at 9.03.12 AM

Today is February 12th, 2014.

Exactly one year ago today I let my obsession with movies/TV spill out of my mind and onto the internet for anyone and everyone to read. I want to take this time to say thank you to everyone reading this. Whether you found it via an alert by WordPress or on one of the social networking sites I promote the site, I am grateful to have you as a reader of my site.

So, having said that, I have a special announcement wrapped in an apology. I apologize I haven’t been as diligent with my posts lately. But I have been busy with the podcast as well as a special project. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: January 2014

12-years-a-slave

  • Total Viewings: 19
  • First Viewings: 12
  • Theater Viewings: 3

So January in 2014 wasn’t nearly as productive as last year in terms of movies watched. To be fair, however, last January was one of the best months I’ve ever had for movie watching; surpassing many a Shocktober, even.

I’m proud of my numbers this month, though. I had a respectable 3 theater outings and a majority of the movies I watched were first viewings. I started 2014 off well. Not only that, I also added a new category to my stats. Continue reading
