Review/Rant: God’s Not Dead – The Most Offensive Movie I’ve Ever Seen

One of the best things about movies is their ability to create conversation amongst an audience of strangers. Movies that specifically tackle deep philosophical issues should inspire debate and conversation. I went into God’s Not Dead with the hope that it would have at least a frame of something, anything at all thought provoking. After all, this is a movie that at its core is about one of humanity’s most polarizing debates.

Unfortunately, God’s Not Dead amounts to an over the top piece of religious propaganda that will only appeal to people sucked into its message before they bought their ticket. In the process of actively avoiding subtext while delivering its propaganda, God’s Not Dead managed to become the most offensive movie I’ve ever seen.

TV Review: Bates Motel – 203 – “Caleb”

Television has long had a tradition of “water cooler moments.” They’re scenes or whole episodes where some big game changer happens and the audience is left in such a state of awe, they immediately discuss it at the water cooler at work the next day.

Even though DVR and Netflix, not to mention Internet communities and social media, have significantly decreased the prominence of “water cooler” discussions, television storytelling still has its share of shocking and twisted moments for the fans to go crazy about.

This week’s episode of Bates Motel delivered one such shock and I was not expecting it. Read on for my breakdown of season 2, episode 3: Caleb.

TV Review: Bates Motel – 202 – “Shadow of a Doubt”

I’m ashamed that it’s taken me 12 episodes of this series to realize the significance of the Bates’ basement and it’s connection to Psycho. I feel like I should get points for noticing (and appreciating) the nod to Hitchcock in this episode’s title, though. That should count for something. Right?

Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast. We decided to do an extended potpourri episode since we haven’t done a proper potpourri in what seems like a while. We recorded for 2 hours but I got it edited down to an hour and a half. Don’t worry, though, I’ve saved all the stuff for a later podcast so you’ll hear it eventually. And it’s good, too!

“One heartbeat away from the Presidency and not a single vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated.”

Chapter 15

I’m back with my second review of House of Cards season 2. In the second episode of the Netflix series’ sophomore season, Frank dips his feet in the presidential arena of power plays and deceit as he’s officially sworn in as VP. Meanwhile, Claire deals with something from her past resurfacing and Lucas (Sebastian Arcelus) looks into the truth on his own.  Continue reading
