How I Met Your Spinoff – Why I’m Looking Forward to HIMYD

tumblr_static_hiii

CBS recently gave a pilot order for a HIMYM spinoff titled How I Met Your Dad. Being a huge fan of HIMYM and being generally against the idea of spinoffs, I was surprised how much I like the idea of this spinoff. Watch me defend myself below. Follow me around the Internet.

This week’s episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast has finally been posted. Our special guest Mike returns once again as we discuss sitcoms. Television’s Most Annoying Characters

Over the last decade, there’s been a steady shift toward more cinematic storytelling on the small screen. TV has dug its heels into the consciousness of the viewer like it never has before. While the television medium has become a juggernaut of long-form storytelling, it is not without its cast of disposable, irritating characters.

Everyone has that one character they wouldn’t mind seeing buried alive on a beach, mauled to death by a female goat or drowned in a creek filled with tears of their own narcissistic self-pity. Below you’ll find some of the characters whose appearances will have me checking my twitter feed, updating my Facebook or biding my time contemplating why I would even watch a show with such an irritating character.

Fair warning, there are some SPOILERS throughout this list so read sections at your own discretion… Continue reading

The Office – My Top Ten Favorite Episodes

wpid-Screenshot_2013-03-09-14-32-41-1.png

In honor of tonight’s series finale (and inspired by The Cinema Monster’s post last week) I figured it would be a good idea to countdown my top 10 favorite episodes of The Office.

Like a majority of viewers, I’ve had my problems with the series in its post-Carell years. Sometimes it feels like I’m watching the show out of an obligation. But there’s something to be said for never having given up on it. I picked up the show between seasons 2 and 3 and, tonight, I’m watching the final episode. It’s a bittersweet moment.

For a long time I feel like the show should have ended a couple seasons ago. Now that it’s finally going off the air, I don’t know that I’m ready for it. But it’s time to say goodbye to Scranton. And what better way to say goodbye to The Office than by remembering its finest moments? Continue reading

TV Backlog: The Office (Cracking the foundation of the happiest couple on television)

The final season of The Office is making me uncomfortable. The show has had a difficult time since Steve Carell left and I admit this season has been slightly less sloppy than the previous one, but the show’s occasional, unexpected shift in tone is leaving me with an uneasy feeling. (Contains spoilers up to and including S09E16 – Moving On)
