In The Good Dinosaur, Pixar imagines a world where dinosaurs never went extinct and now live alongside humans. The movie follows Arlo, a young cowardly dinosaur who finds himself lost from his family farm and forced to confront his fears to return home. Arlo finds an unlikely companion in a human “creature” named Spot, who acts as Arlo’s guard dog. Continue reading

Mike’s Trailer Spotlight: Guardians of the Galaxy

Screen-Shot-2014-02-19-at-09.08.57

Release Date: August 1, 2014

Director: James Gunn

Written By: James Gunn (screenplay), Nicole Perlman, James Gunn, (story), Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (comic book)

I love the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, and according to Yahoo’s The Wrap, so does the rest of the internet:

“After debuting Tuesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the footage for the upcoming outer space adventure attracted 88,000 mentions across Twitter, Facebook and various blogs in a 12-hour period between 11 p.m. EST until 11 a.m. EST.  By way of contrast, in the first 24 hours following their trailer debuts, “Man of Steel” attracted 75,000 social mentions, and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ inspired 96,000 mentions — and those were released at a reasonable hour.” Continue reading

Here’s the latest ep of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast! I’m really excited about this episode. This week we had an in-studio guest for the first time since our friend Greg helped us kick off the podcast in June! Our guest was Chase Kahlo, one of the guys behind Indy PopCon (the brand new pop culture convention coming to Indianapolis in May 2014).

We had so much fun recording with Chase and we’ll probably have him back as the convention nears. And when I say he’s our first “in-studio” guest, I mean he’s our first guest in the makeshift studio I converted my brother’s sunroom into and use to record in while he’s at work. But all the same, it’s a great episode and I hope you like it. Continue reading

The Obsessive Viewer Podcast – Ep 5 – FIRST CONTEST, Memorable Theater Experiences & Why We Love Movies

Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast with Matt & Tiny! We recorded this in Tiny’s basement after I had worked all night and he had gotten an hour or two of sleep. So we were both tired and it didn’t help that it took us an hour to set up our new, cheap microphones.

But it was all worth it because I honestly think this is our best episode yet. It’s all about why we love movies as an art form and what it is about the movie theater that we love so much. As the title suggests, this episode also features the announcement for our FIRST EVER CONTEST! I’ve set up a page here, (up at the top) where you can submit your memorable movie theater stories to us. We’ll read the best ones, plug your site/podcast/project/general shout out.

Don’t forget, you can always send us questions, comments, topic suggestions, death threats etc. If there’s a movie or TV show you’d like to hear our take on, we’ll read your message on the podcast and let you know our thoughts.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the episode. Here are links to the two blogs I reference in the episode: Film Hipster & The Cinema Monster

“Tiny and Matt discuss the best and worst of movie theater experiences and breakdown why they love movies. They also announce the FIRST EVER OBSESSIVE VIEWER CONTEST, pay tribute to Indianapolis legend Sammy Terry, lament the latest Community news and discuss the non-adaptation of World War Z! Memorable Theater Experiences: 11:13 Why We Love Movies: (Tiny) – 45:06 & (Matt) – 51:25

Enjoy. Feedback is very welcome and highly encouraged. You can reach me and Tiny on Twitter @ObsessiveViewer and @ObsessiveTiny. You can also find us on Facebook at The Obsessive Viewer. Contact us in the comments here or send us an email using the form below. Continue reading

How Netflix Could Revolutionize the Way Television Works

image

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

After cornering the home video rental market and all but slaying former rental juggernaut Blockbuster, it seems Netflix has now set its sights on the television industry. With the highly publicized release of House of Cards, the first original television series developed by Netflix, the king of on-demand streaming has introduced itself as an original content provider. And the ripples will be felt for years to come. Netflix could potentially lead the charge in changing the way television works.
