OV76 – Remake This – Horror, Gone Girl, The Walking Dead and This is Where I Leave You

The guys each put forth horror movies that they’d like to see remade. Mike offers his thoughts on hypothetically remaking Sleepaway Camp and The Exorcist. Tiny imagines a world with proper Dracula and It remakes. Matt revisits 90s slasher movies and digs up Final Destination and Urban Legend.

For potpourri, the guys share their thoughts on gone Girl, some Shocktober viewings, and This is Where I Leave You.

Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast! I’m fighting either the flu of food poisoning to get this to you guys. Mike and Tiny couldn’t record this week, so I had a nice solo chat with Tank, the cohost of one of my favorite movie podcasts, about TV and the entertainment industry.

Then I grabbed some never-before-released clips from the OV Archives to

4 Days of Blood: Part IV – Ghoulish Netflix Instant Recommendations

grave-encounters-movie-ghost-screaming

Seeing as Halloween is now upon us and I’ve committed myself to writing four “Days of Blood” posts, I figured I would devote the fourth and final post to some of the better (and more recent) horror and horror-adjacent titles available to stream on Netflix. Hopefully it will make up for the way I’ve been neglecting my Streaming Saturday recommendations this month.

Before I get started, though, I want to thank everyone for indulging me as I let my horror fandom take control of the blog and the podcast. I’d also like to thank my friends Mike (@IAmMikeWhite) and Tiny (@ObsessiveTiny) for contributing so much content this month. I’d also like to thank my friend Pat (@Patty_Kuhn) for joining us on the Zombie episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast.

Finally, I would like to thank John Dugan from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994) and Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) for letting us interview him on the podcast. We had such a great time talking to him and can’t thank him enough. If you’re ever at a convention and have a chance to meet him, I highly recommend it.

So let’s get to the list, shall we? It’s Halloween, so here are some streaming recommendations to make the holiday even better. Continue reading

Subverting the Horror Genre [OV’s Shocktober]

The horror genre has the unique ability to be self-referential while still maintaining its frightening nature. Every now and then a horror movie comes along that will examine the nature of the genre in a fun, inventive way. These movies oftentimes provide a stark look at the genre they lampoon with love.

Here are some examples of movies that turn a satirical eye at their genre. If you have any recommendations or comments on what I have I have listed here, please let me know in the comments below and follow me around the internet with the below links.

A Short Introduction to Shocktober on ObsessiveViewer.com

shocktober

Welcome to The Obsessive Viewer’s first Shocktober. This month on the blog, I (with some help from my friends) will put a large emphasis on the horror genre. This is a tradition that has been a big part of my life since 2006, when I started dedicating the month to horror.

Since then, each year the month has grown to a 31-day event where my friends and I dive into a genre that is near and dear to our hearts. Now, for the first time ever, I have a platform to share this sacred tradition with the world. As such, this month you will see an influx in horror-related reviews and posts written by yours truly as well as my podcast co-hosts and blog contributors Mike and Tiny. Continue reading

Here it is, the first episode of the Fall 2013 season of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast. I referenced last week that we had an editing crisis that resulted in a late release. This week we almost had the same thing happen! Luckily it was salvageable and led to a new ep, bright and early for your listening pleasure.

This episode is our kick off to the most wonderful time of the year. That special month where we load up on horror movies and celebrate a genre of movies that has a little something for everyone. This week we discuss the movie tropes and horror subgenres that really creep us out.

It’s a great discussion. In honor of the episode and season, we want to know what scares you! Tell us about your relationship with horror and what movies or scenes get under your skin. You could get mentioned on the podcast (along with anything you may want us to promote)!

Also, check out PodcastLand.com for a very comprehensive collection of podcasts you can listen to. While you’re there, vote for us for Podcast of the Month! It would me a lot to us. Continue reading
