Obsessive Viewer’s Summer Box Office Challenge 2016

findingdory

So, for the first time in Obsessive Viewer history, my podcast cohosts and I are putting ourselves through a Summer Box Office Challenge. The inaugural Summer B.O. Challenge was covered extensively in yesterday’s podcast episode (OV166 – Summer Box Office Challenge 2016). But, in case you’re not the podcast type, I decided to throw our selections into a blog post for the website.

Here you’ll find a breakdown of the rules, the stakes, and the scoring method that will be used when the results are tallied in September. You’ll also find our selections. Don’t be afraid to let us know how utterly wrong you think we are. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: May 2014

x-men-days-of-future-past-trailer

May was a bit of a return to form for me, as far as movies are concerned. I managed to get 30 viewings into the month and an astonishing (for me) 5 theater viewings.

Unfortunately for my bank account, it was also my most expensive month so far. Between the $157.52 and all the lost minute expenses I incurred for Indy PopCon at the end of the month, I really think I need to start budgeting my money more. I’ll worry about that on my own time. For now, let’s break down my month in movies. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: April 2014

kingsofsummer

April was a surprisingly disappointing month. Maybe this is becoming the norm for me? I can’t account for why I’ve watched so few movies or why I feel like I should shoot for a minimum of 30 a month, apparently. Luckily I managed to spend considerably less money than usual. So that’s something.

  • Total Viewings: 16
  • First Viewings: 8
  • Theater Viewings: 3
  • Money Spent on Movies/TV: $63.47

Below you’ll find a breakdown of my money spent in April on movie and TV related expenses. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: March 2014

Karate Kid img3

I am the worst. I waited until the last day of April to post my breakdown of March’s movie viewing habits. April was a busy month, though. We are far past the procrastination stages of getting our table prepared for Indy PopCon. So much of my month has been devoted to planning for that.

If you are in the Indianapolis area on the weekend of May 30th – June 1st, come see us. We’ll have a bunch of free stuff to give away and we’ll have multiple opportunities for you to chat with us on the podcast!

For now, though, let’s get down to business. Continue reading

Mike Remembers: Harold Ramis

_1393342999

This one stings.

I texted a friend Tuesday about the death of comedy legend Harold Ramis, his response struck a chord: “One day all the greats will be gone, bums me out,” he said, and I couldn’t agree more. Harold Ramis really was one of the greats. Personally, I revered Ramis. So much of his work has spots on my favorites lists. Vacation, directed by Ramis, is a top five movie for me. Caddyshack, also directed by Ramis, is a comedy classic, and Ghostbusters, in which Ramis starred as Egon Spangler, was a huge part of my childhood.

The Month in Movies: January 2014

12-years-a-slave

  • Total Viewings: 19
  • First Viewings: 12
  • Theater Viewings: 3

So January in 2014 wasn’t nearly as productive as last year in terms of movies watched. To be fair, however, last January was one of the best months I’ve ever had for movie watching; surpassing many a Shocktober, even.

I’m proud of my numbers this month, though. I had a respectable 3 theater outings and a majority of the movies I watched were first viewings. I started 2014 off well. Not only that, I also added a new category to my stats. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: December 2013

THE WAY, WAY BACK

I closed out 2013 with a December that consisted of 20 viewings. Of those 20 viewings, only 8 were “first viewings” and 3 were trips to the theater. It was a pretty mellow way to close out the year. It was actually the opposite of 2012’s stats, where I watched any and every thing that I could.

Stay tuned to the blog and podcast for a rundown of not only my year in movies but also Mike and Tiny’s year. For now, here’s my rundown of the highs and lows of December 2013. Continue reading

The Month in Movies: November 2013

I had a mediocre movie-watching month last month. But that’s secondary to the fact that I have eviscerated my previous movie-watching numbers. With a few weeks left in 2013,  I have already had the best year in terms of  movies watched since I started tracking my viewing habits in 2007.

Check back in the new year for my final stats. As for now, here is a breakdown of the best and worst of the movies I viewed in the penultimate month of 2013. As always, don’t forget to follow me and the blog around the internet with the links below.

The Fortnight in TV: 10/27-11/10, 2013

week in tv 1027-1110 I’ve been really lagging behind on these TV updates, not to mention the blog as a whole. I apologize for that. I’m hopeful that things will get back to normal soon. And I hope that I’ll get back into the swing of my TV watching habits. I mean, look at this, I watched 11 episodes of television in a two-week period. That’s really unacceptable.

In the interest of getting back into the swing of things, I’m streamlining this feature of the blog and not listing watch dates and airdates. So here’s my breakdown of the TV I watched in the last couple weeks. Continue reading
