  2. I know I am super late on this one, but I’m catching up on your podcasts and I listened to these yesterday and today. I know I’m not going to change Matt’s mind about Interstellar, but I think he’s missing the point of the documentary shown throughout the movie. The documentary inside the movie is actually clips from Ken Burn’s 2012 “The Dustbowl” documentary. The point of the documentary isn’t so the characters can refer back to it later, it’s to make a little Meta “those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.” Interstellar wasn’t about space travel so much at it was about how turning our back on science and history and ignoring all the things that are destroying the planet (GMOs, climate change, etc.) are going to kill us all if we don’t change and change soon. The fact that a book about Neil Armstrong walking on the moon was worthy of a trip to the principal’s office was trying to show how propaganda and politics are dumbing down everyone and will be the end of the human race.

I highly recommend watching the documentary in its entirety then rewatching Interstellar. It might at least alleviate some of Matt’s disappointment.

    • Hey! Thanks for the comment and thanks for listening to the podcast.

I genuinely didn’t know the clips were taken from “The Dustbowl.” I thought it was supposed to just be a documentary about Earth’s end. That’s interesting, now that I think about it, because the house on Cooper Station wasn’t necessarily a monument, shrine or museum. It was made specifically for Cooper. So that makes a little more sense to me now or, at least, I can definitely see its purpose.

I plan on rewatching the movie at some point. Hopefully I’ll be able to appreciate it more. Though, I don’t know if I’ll be able to get past some of the bigger issues I have with the movie.
