Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast! I’m fighting either the flu of food poisoning to get this to you guys. Mike and Tiny couldn’t record this week, so I had a nice solo chat with Tank, the cohost of one of my favorite movie podcasts, about TV and the entertainment industry.

Then I grabbed some never-before-released clips from the OV Archives to

This week we’re releasing a very special episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast! Not only is this the first episode Tiny, Mike and myself recorded together in person, we also had our friend Rob on the show! Rob is young father, so we picked his brain on his perspective of the Pixar movies and how they are affecting his daughter’s early childhood. I hope you guys like it!

Here’s the latest ep of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast! We were originally going to have Chris Spangle from We Are Libertarians on to discuss the Fall TV season but due to technical issues on our end, we had to bump him to next week.

Instead, we introduced a new concept to the show that we look forward to doing once per season. We were flying by the seat of our pants while we figured out, on the air, how to do it. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun recording it and we hope you enjoy listening to it!

4 Days of Blood: Part III – An Infection of Zombie Movies

20131029_100407

Make sure you check out The Obsessive Viewer Podcast’s episode celebrating our love of zombies.

Zombies are by far my favorite movie monster. There’s nothing about zombies that scares me, per se. I would actually go so far as to say that they’re fairly low on the list of scariest movie monsters. But zombie movies, to me, are never really about the monsters. Zombies bring out the monsters that live within us and within the people we encounter every day. Continue reading

The Fortnight in TV: Oct. 13th-26th, 2013

week in tv 10310262013

I dropped the ball last week and didn’t get around to posting a “Week in TV” post. So now I’m posting two week’s worth of TV watching. Lucky for you guys, Shocktober has kind of taken control, so my TV watching has been considerably low. So here is what I’ve been watching for the last couple weeks. Enjoy.

Here it is, the first episode of the Fall 2013 season of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast. I referenced last week that we had an editing crisis that resulted in a late release. This week we almost had the same thing happen! Luckily it was salvageable and led to a new ep, bright and early for your listening pleasure.

This episode is our kick off to the most wonderful time of the year. That special month where we load up on horror movies and celebrate a genre of movies that has a little something for everyone. This week we discuss the movie tropes and horror subgenres that really creep us out.

It’s a great discussion. In honor of the episode and season, we want to know what scares you! Tell us about your relationship with horror and what movies or scenes get under your skin. You could get mentioned on the podcast (along with anything you may want us to promote)!

The Obsessive Viewer Podcast – Ep 5 – FIRST CONTEST, Memorable Theater Experiences & Why We Love Movies

Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast with Matt & Tiny! We recorded this in Tiny’s basement after I had worked all night and he had gotten an hour or two of sleep. So we were both tired and it didn’t help that it took us an hour to set up our new, cheap microphones.

But it was all worth it because I honestly think this is our best episode yet. It’s all about why we love movies as an art form and what it is about the movie theater that we love so much. As the title suggests, this episode also features the announcement for our FIRST EVER CONTEST! I’ve set up a page here, (up at the top) where you can submit your memorable movie theater stories to us. We’ll read the best ones, plug your site/podcast/project/general shout out.

Don’t forget, you can always send us questions, comments, topic suggestions, death threats etc. If there’s a movie or TV show you’d like to hear our take on, we’ll read your message on the podcast and let you know our thoughts.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the episode. Here are links to the two blogs I reference in the episode: Film Hipster & The Cinema Monster

TV Backlog: The Walking Dead (Rising from Mediocrity, Shambling into Greatness)

The zombie genre often raises interesting questions. How would we behave if society as we know it was gone? How far are we willing to go to protect our own and when the teeth are closing in, what or who are we willing to sacrifice?

These are themes The Walking Dead has played with since day one and things are quickly coming to a head as the show soon ends its third season. Only two new episodes are left and I feel now is as good a time as any to reflect on where the show’s been and where it’s heading. Let’s start from the beginning…

Bates Motel and the Horror Genre on Television

Thanks to The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, the horror genre is in the midst of its biggest television presence since Tales from the Crypt camped up the airwaves of the 1990s. Now A&E is trying to get in on the ground floor by taking a beloved character of the genre and enlisting network hit makers to create a modern day prequel series.
