Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman in a Guillermo del Toro movie about humans fighting aliens with giant machines? I’m definitely going to be seeing this one in the theater!
I know nothing about this movie. In fact, this is the first trailer I’ve actually watched for it. I have been aware of the hype for a while but I’ve kept my distance. It actually made watching the new trailer that much more enjoyable.
The visuals look amazing, the story sounds interesting and the cast is insane. I have high hopes for this one. Watch the trailer below:

Looks like a larger scale transformers to me. Me and my experts predict it will be a bust in theaters.

If it wasn’t for the talent involved, I would be inclined to agree with you. But I’m a big fan of a lot of the actors so I’m (possibly naively) pulling for it. I have faith del Toro will deliver a fun summer blockbuster.

I think people are getting weary of the Transformers franchise. Look at Battleship. Sure, it’s Battleship, a movie based on a board game. But it also looked a lot like Transformers and was a flop.

Yeah but this doesn’t look anything like a Transformers film, it looks just like a realistic Gundam mech from those anime shows. A film based on a board game as stupid as Battleships was always going to be a flop.
The transformer robots are made of tiny parts that form a whole, whereas these robots seem more human in design made from solid pieces of steel and designed to take hits as they clearly need to.
So basically you’re wrong 😀

Haha. Fair enough. But the masses aren’t going to know the difference between realistic Gundam mech and any other robots they see. I’m sure they’re not going to split hairs over how the robots work.
I guess we’ll see. Either way I’m definitely pulling for it to be good. Pending that, I hope it’s a hit.

It’s a risky film, I hope its great and I would like it to be successful because they have already started writing a script for a sequel 😀
