This week’s Streaming Saturday is The Cabin in the Woods. Produced by nerd-god Joss Whedon and directed by Drew Goddard (the pair wrote the script), the movie is a fresh take on a tired horror trope.
To reveal any details would be a detriment to anyone’s first viewing. Suffice it to say, the movie takes a violently witty, meta approach to the “teen cabin horror” movies made popular in the 80s. It reminds me of what Scream did in the 90s for teen slashers. It’s a very fun and surprising movie and I highly recommend it.

We’ll have a review of our own up soon. Suffice to say we saw it in theatrical release, and it floored us. Clever, witty, gory, fucked up – and (yeah, an overused phrase, but it really is) a game changer. And who can hear an elevator arrive with a “ding!” and not think of TCITW?
