To commemorate the release of Evil Dead (2013), this week’s Streaming Saturday selection is Sam Raimi‘s original The Evil Dead from 1981.

This is kind of interesting because I just finished watching The Evil Dead for the first time about ten minutes ago. It has always been on my list and I figured this was as good a time as any to finally watch it.

The Evil Dead is a campy zombie-ish movie about a group of friends in a cabin who uncover an evil book that unleashes hell upon them. The movie is a little hard to get into at first, if you’re not prepared for a cheesy horror movie. Once the gore gets going it fuses itself with the crude filmmaking in a way that gives the movie a really unique charm. The third act is a little out there but the movie overall is a fun b-movie camp-fest of the horror genre.

You can currently stream it on Netflix.

Or you can buy it on Amazon here on Blu-Ray or here on DVD.

As always, you can find The Obsessive Viewer on Twitter @ObsessiveViewer and like the blog on Facebook.
