Decade Reviews – Spider-Man 2 (2004) – Reviewed 7/8/04 & 11/24/14

spider-man 2

A decade ago, I was a teenager in high school. I had my first job at my local movie theater and used my newfound disposable income to get a Netflix subscription.

Over the summer of 2004, 17/18 year old Matt wrote 21 movie reviews and posted them on IMDb. Recently, I dug up these reviews and decided to revisit each movie and evaluate how my tastes have changed over the last decade.

So for each of these posts, I will write a present-day review and then copy/paste the original review after. Then I’ll compare the two and give a summary at the end. You can find all the reviews herefollow me on Twitter here and check out The Obsessive Viewer Podcast here. Now, lets talk about Spider-Man 2. Continue reading

Mike’s Review: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

20140319151353!The_Amazing_Spiderman_2_poster

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had plenty going against it before it opened last Friday, May 2nd. (Early showings started around 8 on Thursday.) Early reviews were lukewarm at best. Trailer Tuesday: OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (2013)

image

This week’s Trailer Tuesday is for this Friday’s Oz the Great and Powerful. It’s directed by Sam Raimi and stars James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. I think Raimi did a great job bringing Spider-Man to life (Spider-Man 2 is still one of my favorite comic book movies) but I’m still very jaded after Spider-Man 3. I also tried watching The Quick and the Dead a while ago and couldn’t get past the camera work.

Oz could potentially get me into Raimi’s camp. The visuals look absolutely stunning and the cast is very strong. I feel like James Franco gets a lot of undue heat. In terms of his off screen life, sometimes I can’t tell if he’s eccentric or just wants to be eccentric. But I think 127 Hours proved not only that he has range but that he can carry a movie.
