OV64 – OV B-Roll – Lone Survivor, Star Wars, Prisoners, Bates Motel, The Zero Theorem

The guys had to take the week off from recording but Matt headed into their studio and awkwardly recorded some intros for several clips the show has accrued in its “B-Roll.”

In this collection of clips (mostly recorded in January and March of 2014), the guys discuss the propaganda in Lone Survivor. They debate the ending of Prisoners. They also discuss accents, Bates Motel, The Wolf of Wall Street, Star Wars and The Zero Theorem. Enjoy.

Last week Bates Motel closed the book on its second season in a character development-laden finale that proved me wrong on nearly all of my predictions. That’s not to say The Immutable Truth was a disappointment, though. Hardly. In fact, season 2 of Bates Motel closed on a note of promise for some of the key players and on an ever so heightened sense of foreboding for our main character.

Once again, I am late to the party on getting a review written and posted for Bates Motel. I apologize to all of my loyal readers for that. Things have been hectic lately as we prepare to take The Obsessive Viewer Podcast to Indy PopCon later this month. If you’re in the area May 30th, by the way, check out the convention and come see us! For now, though, let’s get to the review of this season’s penultimate Bates Motel episode. Continue reading

How about that? For a change, I’m not posting this review on Monday, mere hours before the next episode airs. I’m kind of proud of that but that’s neither here nor there. Some big things happened this week that will usher in the end of the season in a few weeks. Read my thoughts below.

But BEWARE of SPOILERS! Continue reading

I apologize for the lateness of this post. I’ve been on a tear rewatching Game of Thrones, watching/reviewing House of Cards and editing some recent (and future) podcast episodes. Nevertheless, I’m here now with my latest Bates Motel review and I’m just in time for tonight’s all new episode. Continue reading

Television has long had a tradition of “water cooler moments.” They’re scenes or whole episodes where some big game changer happens and the audience is left in such a state of awe, they immediately discuss it at the water cooler at work the next day.

Even though DVR and Netflix, not to mention Internet communities and social media, have significantly decreased the prominence of “water cooler” discussions, television storytelling still has its share of shocking and twisted moments for the fans to go crazy about.

This week’s episode of Bates Motel delivered one such shock and I was not expecting it. Read on for my breakdown of season 2, episode 3: Caleb.

TV Review: Bates Motel – 202 – “Shadow of a Doubt”

I’m ashamed that it’s taken me 12 episodes of this series to realize the significance of the Bates’ basement and it’s connection to Psycho. I feel like I should get points for noticing (and appreciating) the nod to Hitchcock in this episode’s title, though. That should count for something. Right?

Welcome back to White Pine Bay and the mercurial world that surrounds the eventually infamous Bates Motel. Before I get started on my review, you can click here to check out my reviews from last season of A&E’s Psycho “pre-imagining” series.

When we last left teenage Norman Bates, he had just murdered his teacher and had a difficult time processing how close his brother was getting to Bradley, the hot girl in school who took Norman’s v-card. Continue reading

Here’s the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast with Matt & Tiny. This was a lot of fun to record. We had my friend Mike on as a guest. I’ve been friends with both Mike and Tiny for a long time and this is the first time they’ve ever interacted with each other. So it was definitely fun to record. Continue reading

TV Review: Bates Motel – 110 – “Midnight”

So it’s been a week since the Bates Motel season finale. I’ve given it time to settle and I’m finally ready to post my thoughts. The episode was a nice mix of resolution and setup, as are all good season finales. Some things didn’t pan out the way I hoped or expected them to turn out. But overall it was a good end to a surprisingly good first season. (SPOILERS AHEAD…) Continue reading

“12 rooms, 12 vacancies.”

I meant to post this yesterday but, in all honesty, House of Cards has taken over my life the past few days. I guess this week I’ve lived up to my online persona.

This week Norman studied some taxidermy while a variation of a famous line from Psycho crept its way into the show. (SPOILERS AHEAD….) Continue reading
