Last week Bates Motel closed the book on its second season in a character development-laden finale that proved me wrong on nearly all of my predictions. That’s not to say The Immutable Truth was a disappointment, though. Hardly. In fact, season 2 of Bates Motel closed on a note of promise for some of the key players and on an ever so heightened sense of foreboding for our main character.

Once again, I am late to the party on getting a review written and posted for Bates Motel. I apologize to all of my loyal readers for that. If you’re in the area May 30th, by the way, check out the convention and come see us! For now, though, let’s get to the review of this season’s penultimate Bates Motel episode. Continue reading

Welcome back to White Pine Bay and the mercurial world that surrounds the eventually infamous Bates Motel. Before I get started on my review, you can click here to check out my reviews from last season of A&E’s Psycho “pre-imagining” series.

When we last left teenage Norman Bates, he had just murdered his teacher and had a difficult time processing how close his brother was getting to Bradley, the hot girl in school who took Norman’s v-card. Continue reading

TV Review: Bates Motel – 110 – “Midnight”

So it’s been a week since the Bates Motel season finale. I’ve given it time to settle and I’m finally ready to post my thoughts. The episode was a nice mix of resolution and setup, as are all good season finales. Some things didn’t pan out the way I hoped or expected them to turn out. But overall it was a good end to a surprisingly good first season. (SPOILERS AHEAD…) Continue reading

“12 rooms, 12 vacancies.”

I meant to post this yesterday but, in all honesty, House of Cards has taken over my life the past few days. I guess this week I’ve lived up to my online persona.

This week Norman studied some taxidermy while a variation of a famous line from Psycho crept its way into the show. (SPOILERS AHEAD….) Continue reading

TV Review: Bates Motel – 107 – “The Man in Number 9”

After the Shelby mess is shoved under the rug, the motel gets its first (totally not shady) customer and we’re reminded that Norman is in high school. (SPOILERS AHEAD) Continue reading

I love it when a show or movie makes me feel like a complete moron. This week’s episode of Bates Motel made me feel like an idiot. Let’s get to it. Read on for my thoughts. But beware because there are  SPOILERS AHEAD…. Continue reading

TV Review: Bates Motel – 105 – “Ocean View”

Bates Motel S01E05 - Ocean View_1247621At the end of last week’s episode I was excited at the prospect of more Nestor Carbonell. Unfortunately, Sheriff Romero was busy investigating a burglary this week. His absence didn’t make for a bad episode, though. Things continue getting crazy in White Pine Bay. Read on for my thoughts… (SPOILERS AHEAD)

TV Review: Bates Motel – 104 – “Trust Me”

Norman had a pretty good week. Norma had a couple sleepless nights with the promise of more to come. Emma was suspiciously out sick with the flu. And Dylan spent a couple days off work being a good wingman. Read on for my thoughts on this week’s episode. (SPOILERS AHEAD…) Continue reading

I don’t usually watch previews for upcoming episodes, but I watched them for next week. I’ll just say, I think next week looks like a great episode. For now, let’s talk about What’s Wrong with Norman.

TV Review: Bates Motel – 102 – “Nice Town You Picked, Norma”

Things are moving very fast in White Pine Bay. This week’s installment of the Psycho pre-imagining (I hate me for that too, just roll with it) focused on the town’s shady secrets and introduced us to Norman’s jerk brother. Those were two of the plot points I was eager to see more of in the show and I wasn’t disappointed. (Spoilers ahead) Continue reading

Last night viewers finally had the opportunity to see if the numerous talent in front of (and behind) the camera of A&E’s Psycho prequel/reboot have what it takes to bring one of film’s greatest monsters into the 21st century. Did they succeed or will Bates Motel suffer an early death?
