- Cléo from 5 to 7, 1962 - ★★★½ February 23, 2021Beautiful movie. It took a while for me to really get into it but the complete shift in Cleo's day is really well showcased. The ending worked very well for me.
- Ikiru, 1952 - ★★★★★ February 22, 2021Watched on Sunday February 21, 2021.
- Apt Pupil, 1998 - ★★ February 6, 2021Part of my low rating may be due to having just finished re-reading the novella before watching this for the first time. King is very hard to adapt and Apt Pupil makes a solid effort. Some things are streamlined, some dropped entirely. The finished product is just okay, though. I very rarely connected with Brad Renfro's performance. It seems like the ma […]
- The Swerve, 2018 - ★★½ February 4, 2021Watched on Wednesday February 3, 2021.
- Shaun of the Dead, 2004 - ★★★★½ February 1, 2021Recorded another commentary track for our $5 Patreon level. I love this movie so much. It's still the best of the Cornetto trilogy for me.
- Hearts in Atlantis, 2001 - ★★★ January 31, 2021Solid enough. Its based on King's collection of 5 interconnected stories and I think stripping the book of all but 2 of the stories was probably the right thing to do. However, it loses quite a bit of the collection's deeper meaning and themes in the translation. It's still a solid enough coming of age story and Anton Yelchin gave an amazing p […]

Finale Review: Bates Motel – 210 – “The Immutable Truth”
You can read my review of every Bates Motel episode here!
Last week Bates Motel closed the book on its second season in a character development-laden finale that proved me wrong on nearly all of my predictions. That’s not to say The Immutable Truth was a disappointment, though. Hardly. In fact, season 2 of Bates Motel closed on a note of promise for some of the key players and on an ever so heightened sense of foreboding for our main character.

Once again, I am late to the party on getting a review written and posted for Bates Motel. I apologize to all of my loyal readers for that. Things have been hectic lately as we prepare to take The Obsessive Viewer Podcast to Indy PopCon later this month. If you’re in the area May 30th, by the way, check out the convention and come see us! For now, though, let’s get to the review of this season’s penultimate Bates Motel episode. Continue reading

How about that? For a change, I’m not posting this review on Monday, mere hours before the next episode airs. I’m kind of proud of that but that’s neither here nor there. Some big things happened this week that will usher in the end of the season in a few weeks. Read my thoughts below.
But BEWARE of SPOILERS! Continue reading
TV Review: Bates Motel – 206 – “Plunge”

Before I get to my (late again) review, I want to mention that Bates Motel was officially renewed by A&E for a third season. As with the first two seasons, I’ll probably review each episode. For now, let’s get to this week’s review.
TV Review: Bates Motel – 205 – “The Escape Artist”
You can read my review of every Bates Motel episode here!
I apologize for the lateness of this post. I’ve been on a tear rewatching Game of Thrones, watching/reviewing House of Cards and editing some recent (and future) podcast episodes. Nevertheless, I’m here now with my latest Bates Motel review and I’m just in time for tonight’s all new episode. Continue reading
TV Review: Bates Motel – 203 – “Caleb”
Television has long had a tradition of “water cooler moments.” They’re scenes or whole episodes where some big game changer happens and the audience is left in such a state of awe, they immediately discuss it at the water cooler at work the next day.
Even though DVR and Netflix, not to mention Internet communities and social media, have significantly decreased the prominence of “water cooler” discussions, television storytelling still has its share of shocking and twisted moments for the fans to go crazy about.
This week’s episode of Bates Motel delivered one such shock and I was not expecting it. Read on for my breakdown of season 2, episode 3: Caleb.

Welcome back to White Pine Bay and the mercurial world that surrounds the eventually infamous Bates Motel. Before I get started on my review, you can click here to check out my reviews from last season of A&E’s Psycho “pre-imagining” series.
When we last left teenage Norman Bates, he had just murdered his teacher and had a difficult time processing how close his brother was getting to Bradley, the hot girl in school who took Norman’s v-card. Continue reading
The Month in Movies: August 2013
August was a slow month for me when it comes to my movie watching. Historically speaking, it’s a slow month for me anyways. In years past I had the start of school drastically cutting back my numbers. Not to mention, I also have the beginning of the fall TV season to vie for my attention.
So August is always a slow month. However, this year I managed to squeeze in 17 movies. I would say that the absence of school in my life may have contributed to it, but this was my best August since 2008. I think 2008 may have actually been the last August I was in school. I’m not sure.
In any case, here are the best and worst of my movies watched in August 2013. Continue reading

TV Review: Bates Motel – 110 – “Midnight”
So it’s been a week since the Bates Motel season finale. I’ve given it time to settle and I’m finally ready to post my thoughts. The episode was a nice mix of resolution and setup, as are all good season finales. Some things didn’t pan out the way I hoped or expected them to turn out. But overall it was a good end to a surprisingly good first season. (SPOILERS AHEAD…) Continue reading
TV Review: Bates Motel – 109 – “Underwater”
This week Bates Motel aired its first season’s penultimate episode. “Underwater” set up next Monday’s finale nicely and provided a nice showcase for Vera Farmiga. (SPOILERS AHEAD) Continue reading
TV Review: Bates Motel – 108 – “A Boy and His Dog”
“12 rooms, 12 vacancies.”
I meant to post this yesterday but, in all honesty, House of Cards has taken over my life the past few days. I guess this week I’ve lived up to my online persona.
This week Norman studied some taxidermy while a variation of a famous line from Psycho crept its way into the show. (SPOILERS AHEAD….) Continue reading
TV Review: Bates Motel – 107 – “The Man in Number 9”
After the Shelby mess is shoved under the rug, the motel gets its first (totally not shady) customer and we’re reminded that Norman is in high school. (SPOILERS AHEAD) Continue reading
