TV Review: Under the Dome – 106 – “The Endless Thirst”

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

A note before I get started with this week’s review. I mentioned last week in my “Parting Thoughts” section that I didn’t understand last week’s episode title (Blue on Blue) and thought a better episode title would be “Friendly Fire.” Thanks to Reddit user “AegisToTheCrown” I now know that “Blue on Blue” is actually military terminology for “friendly fire.” I don’t know why I didn’t know that, but all the same, thanks Aegis!

This week’s Trailer Tuesday is, admittedly, my first repeat. Back in May, I featured the teaser trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s highly anticipated space thriller Gravity. Movie Review: Man of Steel (2013)

Superman-Man-of-Steel-LogoYou can hear more of my thoughts on the movie in this week’s episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast.

I waited for Man of Steel to come to my local IMAX theater because I wanted to see it properly. After almost 2 months it was finally showing at the only 70mm IMAX theater in my state and I jumped at the chance to see it. I saw it in 3D solely because I had no other choice. I won’t comment further on the 3D since I’ve already said my peace on the matter elsewhere. But, needless to say, 3D added absolutely nothing to this theater experience. Continue reading

TV Review: Under the Dome – 105 – “Blue on Blue”

Under the Dome is getting dangerous. This was the second week in a row that the show has had a strong episode. It’s successfully lulling me into a false sense of security as to what kind of quality we can expect from the rest of the season.

Movie Reviews: The Godfather (1972) & Apocalypse Now (1979)

I had six hours to kill last weekend and had a hankering for some Francis Ford Coppola. So I popped in The Godfather and gave it my first viewing since 2009. After the movie, I was tempted to just pop in The Godfather Part II but I resisted. Not for any reason in particular. I love The Godfather Part II and will definitely give it a rewatch soon, while its predecessor is still fresh in my mind.

Instead, I broke out my DVD of Apocalypse Now.  I hadn’t seen that movie since high school. So I was incredibly overdue. You can read my thoughts below. Continue reading

TV Review: Under the Dome – 104 – “Outbreak”

I’ll be honest, last week’s episode left such a bad taste in my mouth that I was actually very nervous about tuning in this week. I spent the week telling myself that the show’s lackluster 3rd episode was just a fluke and the writers were still finding the voice of Chester’s Mill. I told myself that Alexander Koch just needed a short grace period to find his footing with the Junior character.

If “Outbreak” is any indication, I was right.

Editorial: The Most Tragic Television Moments

Before you start reading, I must warn you that this is a SPOILER HEAVY list, obviously. Read at your own discretion.

I wrote this in response to the end of season 3 of Game of Thrones. When I first started watching the series, I wanted to read each season’s corresponding book before I watched the adaptation. Given the length of the novels, my impatience and fear of being spoiled I stopped about 1/3 of the way through the second book and got caught up on the series.

Thankfully, I avoided all spoilers for the end of season three. What I got in return was one of the biggest “HOLY SHIT” moments in recent television memory. It’s the moment everyone has been talking about and now that I’ve finally seen it, I’ve been inspired to make a list of the most tragic moments in television. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: Clearly this list is only limited to the shows I’ve seen. Think I missed something? Let me know in the comments, on Twitter @ObsessiveViewer or on Facebook. Continue reading
