Earlier this week, I posted a bonus Breaking Bad episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast!

Since not everyone watches Breaking Bad, I’m also keeping with our normal release schedule. So here is episode 13! In it, we discuss Sitcoms again and get into a few discussions about what we’ve been watching.

We recorded this shortly after we recorded episode 8. I’m really excited for everyone to hear it. I hope you like it. Make sure you let us know what you think, what you’re watching and what you want us to watch. Continue reading

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

I’ve waited a couple days before writing and posting this review. I’ve been busy editing and prepping 2 episodes of the podcast for release this week. Shameless plug, if you’re a fan of Breaking Bad, you should check out our first of 3 special Breaking Bad episodes where we breakdown the show’s final run episode by episode.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to Under the Dome, shall we?

This week we’ve released a special bonus episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast!

UPDATE 9/18: Check out Part 2 of the Breaking Bad bonus episodes here!

To commemorate the final episodes of Breaking Bad, Tiny, Mike and myself have decided to record our discussions of each episode after they air. We’re releasing these recordings in 3 segment chunks. So this episode covers the first 3 episodes of the final season and in a few weeks we’ll release part 2 (which will cover episodes 4-6). Finally, the 3rd Breaking Bad bonus episode will cover the penultimate episode and the series finale.

Not a Breaking Bad fan? No worries. We’re also going to release our normal Friday episode on schedule this week! Continue reading

After yet another lengthy battle with Garageband, the latest episode of The Obsessive Viewer Podcast is officially posted! I’m starting to think I should start a separate podcast that’s just me yelling while I edit this one.

This week we discussed Elysium and veered off on a bit of an I Am Legend tangent. Inspired by the Slightly Sauced podcast, we took to Yahoo! Answers and gave our expertise on a variety of movie-related questions. It was a blast and we’ll probably do it again in the future.

TV Review: Under the Dome – 109 – “The Fourth Hand”

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

Under the Dome has become a successful mystery series in that each week I don’t know whether I will write a favorable review or pick the whole thing apart while comparing it to another show.  It’s been a very inconsistent show in its first eight episodes. Being an eternal optimist, I view this inconsistency as a good thing. If the writers listen to feedback and examine what works and what doesn’t, the series could really thrive in season two.

For now, however, let’s talk about episode 9: “The Fourth Hand.”

How the Mighty Have Fallen: Dexter On Its Last Lap, A Fan’s Lament [Obsessive Friends: Mike]

OBSESSIVE NOTE: My friend Mike is by far the biggest Dexter fan I know. As such, he has kindly offered to contribute his thoughts on the series’ past, present and increasingly limited future. You can follow him on Twitter at @IAmMikeWhite.

– Matt (@ObsessiveViewer)

“The mask is slipping,” a line from a second season episode of Showtime’s long running mega-hit  Dexter, is forever tattooed on the side of my foot – a constant reminder of one of my favorite episodes in one of my favorite seasons of one of my favorite shows of all time, and now a reminder of how far the show has fallen. I got the tattoo (during Dexter’s fourth season) as, both an homage to a fantastic show, and a way to say that good things happen when we reveal to people who we really are; for better or worse. I also really liked Michael C. Hall’s reading of the line. But man, maybe Dexter should have left the mask on a little longer…

Dexter, now in the smack-dab middle of its final season, is truly limping toward the finish line. It’s ratings are still tops over at Showtime, but more people watching the show doesn’t mean that old fans are liking what they see, and the show is severely showing its age. Continue reading

Streaming Saturday: Saturday Night Live (1975-Present)

Last week my PS3 died a hero’s death. In the end, it went out doing what it did best, streaming Netflix so I wouldn’t have to eat my Honey Bunches of Oats in silence. As a result, I streamed Netflix on my laptop set up on a TV tray at the foot of my bed.

With this set up, I found myself watching some things I don’t normally stream, namely some episodes of Saturday Night Live from the middle of the 1990s. When I was a kid, I used to love watching SNL. I hadn’t noticed just how much of SNL was on Netflix.

So for this week’s Streaming Saturday, I decided to do something a little different. Below I’ve compiled a list of all the SNL-related titles available for streaming. It’s worth noting that the decade collections don’t have the full episodes. The musical performances are missing and many episodes have sketches cut out.

Check out the list below and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @ObsessiveViewer, like the blog on Facebook and check out The Obsessive Viewer Podcast. Continue reading

TV Review: Under the Dome – 108 – “Thicker Than Water”

twitterpost tagspost tagsreddit

I feel like I was a little hard on the show last week. I want to reiterate that it was a good episode but the similarities to Lost were obvious to the point of being distracting for me.

I also want to say that Under the Dome season 1 now has a home video release date. It’ll be released on November 5th on DVD, Blu-Ray and a collector’s edition Blu-Ray set. You can preorder it by clicking the corresponding links in the previous sentence. I think it’s interesting that it’s releasing so soon. It’s an interesting way to combat piracy.

But enough about that; here’s my review of the episode. As always,  BEWARE, MAJOR SPOILERS Continue reading
